Kedarnath is one of the holiest pilgrimage destinations in India, dedicated to Lord Shiva and part of both the Char Dham and Panch Kedar circuits. Located at an altitude of 11,755 feet in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, the temple is surrounded by towering snow-clad peaks, including the Kedarnath range, and sits near the source of the Mandakini River.
Believed to have been built by the Pandavas and later restored by Adi Shankaracharya, the ancient stone temple holds deep mythological and spiritual significance. The trek to Kedarnath is a 16-kilometer journey from Gaurikund, offering stunning views of lush valleys, cascading waterfalls, and rugged mountain terrain. For those unable to trek, helicopter services are also available.
Kedarnath’s spiritual aura, combined with its breathtaking natural surroundings, makes it a must-visit for pilgrims and nature enthusiasts alike, offering a unique blend of devotion, adventure, and tranquility.
Your journey begins with a morning pick-up from Haridwar, followed by a scenic drive to Guptkashi. Along the way, you will pass through the picturesque towns of Rishikesh, Byasi, Devprayag, and Srinagar, as well as the hill stations of Rudraprayag and Agastmuni. By Road: If you prefer traveling by road, your cab will take you to Sonprayag, which is 30 km away from Guptkashi. During the high season (May/June), this road can be quite busy, so it’s advisable to start early from Guptkashi. From Sonprayag, take local transport to Gaurikund, located 5 km ahead. Gaurikund serves as the base camp for the Kedarnath trek. After completing medical and biometric registration, begin the 16 km trek to Kedarnath, which typically takes around 5 hours. For those who wish to skip the trek, ponies or a doli are available.
By Air: Alternatively, you can take a helicopter ride for a faster and more scenic journey. The helicopter ride offers a breathtaking bird's-eye view of the snow-clad Himalayan peaks. Your cab will take you to the helipad, where you'll complete the necessary formalities before flying to Kedarnath.
Upon arrival in Kedarnath, check into your hotel, rest, and explore the beautiful surroundings at your leisure. Enjoy a peaceful dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Kedarnath.

After breakfast, begin your descent back from Kedarnath. You can either trek down or take a helicopter ride back to Sonprayag. Once in Sonprayag, board your cab and proceed to Guptkashi, located approximately 30 km away. The drive will take about an hour. Enjoy lunch at a midway stop.
